Program Description

Event Details

Discover the rich histories hidden in your favorite dishes at this engaging MPL Big Read program. Join Sara McKinley, Carnegie Library manager and archivist at Muncie Public Library, as she explores how community and family cookbooks can serve as powerful tools for genealogy and historical research — helping you trace connections, traditions and stories across generations.

Then, Kate Elliott, associate lecturer in Ball State’s School of Journalism and Strategic Communication, will invite participants to contribute to the Big Read Community Cookbook. Learn how to document cherished recipes alongside the memories that give them meaning, with practical tips for capturing the moments that bring us to the table.

Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite recipe to this hands-on writing session to capture memories associated with the dish. Whether you're interested in family history, writing or simply love food, this program offers a meaningful way to connect the past with the present, one recipe at a time.

Light refreshments will be available.
