The Ball State Philosophy and Religious Studies Department in partnership with Muncie Public Library presents the Big Questions, Big Ideas series. Learn to think critically about complex issues and questions, and cultivate an awareness of the diversity of ideas in our world.

September's topic will be "Still Ignoring the Past: Assessing and Addressing Open Textbook Coverage of Slavery and Colonialism" by Dr. Andrew Gray, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology & Dr. Indigo Koslicki, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology.

While there is growing acknowledgment that textbooks should be more accessible, criminal justice Open Access textbooks are sparse – especially when considering their coverage of race and colonialism. Dr. Koslicki and Dr. Gray will discuss their Open Access textbook they authored to provide free coverage of these important issues and how these are incredibly pertinent to present-day political attacks on issues like DEI, the 14th Amendment, immigration, abortion, and more.
