A searchable database of circulation records from Muncie Public Library circa 1891-1902, "What Middletown Read" is the result of a collaborative effort between MPL, the Center for Middletown Studies, and Ball State University Libraries.

A genealogy resource containing approximately 4000 databases of census; vital; church; court; emigration/immigration records; birth; marriage & death records; military records; census & voter records; and immigration & emigration records. Content ranges from the 13th to the 21st century and provides billions of indexed names. In addition to coverage for the United States and the United Kingdom, there are record collections for Canada, Europe and Australia. Available from Library only.

Family history, genealogy information, and genealogy resources & training. Search over one billion records in over 28,000 databases. Collections include birth, marriage, death, census, church, probate, court, government, immigration, land, and military records as well as photos, yearbooks, maps, family trees, and more!

Cemetery Records
Carnegie Library has listings for most Delaware County cemeteries including Elm Ridge, Beech Grove  and Gardens of Memory. 


Census Records
Carnegie Library has Delaware County census microfilm for years 1820 - 1930. Muncie Public Library provides access to all available census records for the entire country via the subscription databases AncestryLibrary and World Vital Records.


County Histories
Several books were written in the late 1800's and early 1900's on the history of Delaware County and its residents. An index to these books can be found inDelaware County, Indiana Index of Names of Persons and Firms. Carnegie Library owns many histories for Indiana counties and Muncie Public Library also offers an Indiana County Histories database online.

Available in the original format or on microfilm. Includes:

Court Documents
Records for the Delaware County Circuit and Superior Courts from the 1800's through the 1950's are available at Carnegie Library. The criminal records and many civil records have been digitized and are available on line. Check out the Muncie/Delaware County Digital Resource Library.


Directories
Telephone books and city directories can help pinpoint exactly when and where someone lived in the area. Carnegie Library has phone books going back to 1945 and city directories from 1876 to the present.


Family Histories
We maintain a file of Delaware County families (Donations are welcome!) and published family histories.


Funeral Home Records
Carnegie Library is in the process of building a large database of records from local funeral homes. Currently available are records from Meeks MortuaryParson Mortuary, and Faulkner Mortuary via the Muncie/Delaware County Digital Resource Library. Records of the Stephens, Piepho, Rhoradan and Parson-Rust (Albany, IN) funeral homes are also included. 

(More funeral home records in the Muncie area may be available in the future.)


 Newspapers
Various Muncie and Delaware County newspapers are available on microfilm from 1837 to the present. 


Obituaries
Carnegie Library has a one-of-a-kind Obituary Index for local newspapers. The card index covers obituaries from 1943 - 2001. More recent indexing can be found via the Muncie/Delaware County Digital Resource Library and the Muncie Star Press newspaper. Carnegie is in the process of indexing obituaries from 1943 - 2001 and beyond. Also available is a Subject/Obituary newspaper index from 1837 - 1942. Many obituaries from this era will eventually be included in the online database.


Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps
City of Muncie: 1883, 1887, 1889, 1892, 1896, 1902 and 1911 - 1950.


Vital Records

  • Marriage Records in original and microfilm format with indexing available from 1827 - 1996.
  • Birth Record indexing available from 1882 - 1920.
  • Death Record indexing available from 1882 - 1920.
