A mainstay of the local community, Muncie Public Library has a long history of providing enriching, education content in a friendly environment for our neighbors. In our continued efforts to advance our mission and continue serving our members and the community at large, MPL is happy to enjoy a beneficial relationship with our committed Board of Trustees and the organization Friends of MPL. They help to ensure that our contributions to the community lead to a better story for all.

We value our ability to be proactive and responsive to community needs. We value organization effectiveness and efficiency. We value and support innovation and flexibility in planning and operation. We value our relationship with each other and the community and will treat everyone with respect and courtesy.
Vision of the Library
We envision a future where people get excited by ideas and utilize the resources of the Library to explore, discover, imagine, and create. We seek to be recognized for providing access to new technology, print resources, and educational opportunities. We commit ourselves to the community and will strive to provide leadership in solving the problems facing the community through a variety of strategies, including public conversation and town hall meeting events.
Here you'll find information about how we operate. The Operations Policies include: Circulation Policy, Collection Development, Donations, Photograph/Image, Website Privacy, and many more:
Kennedy Library Solar Carport: The solar carport project was funded, in part, by a Solar Uniting Neighbors (SUN) Energy Grant. The carport has a power capacity of 15 kilowatts and is an 80 PV solar panel carport. A report generated in September 2016 indicated total energy production for year to date was 18.15Mwh, total savings for the year to date was $2,000, and the Co2 emmissions saved for the year to date was equivalent to 252 trees being planted.
Elimination of Single-Use Plastic Bags: Muncie Public Library (MPL) makes a conscious effort to help keep our planet and our community clean and beautiful. We partnered with Muncie Sanitary District during World Environment Day 2017 to offer free reusable tote bags to the public to encourage the use of reusable bags for library materials and MPL stopped offering single-use plastic bags. Thanks to Muncie Sanitary District and to our wonderful customers who have embraced this change, we will be keeping 23,400 plastic bags out of landfills and rivers each year!
